It is time to schedule a plumbing inspection when you are buying or selling a home, when the same problems keep returning, before a kitchen or bathroom renovation, or when your pipes, water heater, and fixtures are getting older. An inspection helps you find problems while they are still small.
Buying or Selling a Home
A general home inspection may only touch on plumbing. A plumbing inspection looks more closely at the water heater, visible pipes, fixtures, drains, and shutoff valves. For older homes, a camera inspection of the sewer line can show cracks, root growth, or sagging sections before you commit to a purchase.
Repeat Problems
If you have cleared the same drain several times this year, or a leak keeps reappearing in the same area, the cause has not been fixed. Recurring backups in particular can point to a main line issue. In that case, having the sewer line examined with a camera shows what is going on inside.
Before You Renovate
Opening walls and floors is a good time to check the pipes behind them. A plumber can tell you whether older lines should be replaced while the space is already open. This can be much easier than reopening a finished wall later.
As Your Plumbing Ages
Some signs suggest it is time for a look:
- The water heater is more than 10 years old
- You see corrosion on pipes or valves
- Water pressure has slowly dropped
- Shutoff valves are stiff or will not turn
Valves that do not work are a real problem during an emergency, so testing them is part of a good inspection.
If any of these apply to your home, book an inspection with our local team. An inspection is also a good idea before buying a home or after a major repair. Call JPR Plumbing at (833) 603-1840 to get started.
