Toilet problems can disrupt a household quickly, especially in a home with only one bathroom. An overflowing bowl, a leak around the base, or a toilet that won’t flush or won’t stop running all need attention.
Some toilet issues come from a clog in the toilet itself. Others involve worn internal parts, a failed wax seal, a cracked tank, or a blockage further down the drain line.
What to Do if a Toilet Overflows
If water is rising, the shut-off valve behind the toilet can usually stop water from entering the tank. Avoid flushing again until the cause is found. If several fixtures back up at once, the problem may be in the main drain.
