A slow drain is an inconvenience. A drain that stops working completely is a bigger problem. Severe clogs can keep sinks, tubs, showers, and floor drains from emptying and may cause water to back up into the home.
Blockages often build over time from grease, soap residue, hair, food waste, and items that shouldn’t go down a drain. Tree roots and damaged pipes can also restrict flow in some lines.
Signs of a Serious Blockage
Watch for standing water, gurgling sounds, bad odors, and water rising in one fixture when another is used. When several drains are affected at once, the blockage may be further down the line. If wastewater is coming back up, see our sewer backup plumber page.
